HLC Industries has built a strong reputation for performance fabrics across defense, tactical, and industrial markets. Now operating under fifth-generation family leadership and ISO 9001 recertification, we continue to lead with PFAS-free tactical fabrics. Titan X™, Titan XL™, and CORDURA® C0 offer high durability and water resistance without harmful chemical finishes.

What Are PFAS and Why Are They a Concern?

PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are synthetic compounds once widely used in water- and stain-repellent fabric coatings. Known as “forever chemicals,” PFAS persist in the environment and have been linked to serious health risks, including cancer and immune system disruption.

Mounting regulatory pressure from agencies like the U.S. EPA and the European Union is phasing out these substances. For textile suppliers, the old approach to water repellency is no longer acceptable. HLC has responded with a new generation of tactical fabrics that meet performance needs without the environmental cost.

Water vs. Oil Repellency: C6 vs C0 Explained

Fabrics using C6 chemistry repel both water and oil. While effective, this finish is a PFAS-based coating that brings environmental and regulatory challenges.

However, C0 chemistry delivers:

  • Strong water resistance. Effective protection from rain and moisture.
  • Zero PFAS. Free from harmful fluorochemicals.
  • Reduced environmental impact. Safer for workers, users, and ecosystems.

The tradeoff is reduced oil repellency. Still, for most tactical and industrial uses, the durability and safety of C0 finishes make them the preferred choice.

Why HLC Uses C0 in TitanTM and CORDURA®

We transitioned our tactical fabrics to PFAS-free materials because the future of the industry must prioritize environmental responsibility as well as performance. Available as PFAS-free nylon laminates, Titan X™ and Titan XL™ offer excellent water resistance, durability, and tear strength.

CORDURA® TrueLock™ fabrics offer long-lasting color, abrasion resistance, and water repellency with PFAS-free chemistry. Our CORDURA® C0 fabrics maintain consistent performance in gear, backpacks, and uniforms.

Certifications and Compliance: What PFAS-Free Really Means

HLC’s PFAS-free nylon products are backed by recognized standards, including OEKO-TEX® certification, REACH compliance, and EPA guidance. These benchmarks confirm that the fabrics meet both environmental safety and global trade regulations.

For manufacturers and suppliers, using compliant materials reduces risk and supports long-term sourcing strategies. HLC ensures that our tactical and industrial fabrics are not just sustainable but also built to meet the legal and technical demands of a changing market.

Titan™ and CORDURA® products are designed for real-world performance in military gear, commercial uniforms, and industrial applications. By integrating responsible chemistry without compromising strength, HLC provides a complete range of tactical fabrics for defense contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers.
